Description	:	Mrs. Johanna Kappelt was born March 8, 1832, at Wehlige, Schliesian Province, Germany. In 1856 she was united in marriage to Karl Schwarz. The family came to America in 1874, and located on the farm north of Home City. About ten years ago they moved to town and here her husband died last year, in February. Mrs. Schwarz was sick for about five months and died May 5, 1909. She was buried in the Home City cemetery beside her husband. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church by Rev. Hansen. The family came to America in 1874, and located on the farm north of Home City. About ten years ago they moved to town and here her husband died last year, in February. Mrs. Schwarz was sick for about five months and died May 5, 1909. She was buried in the Home City cemetery beside her husband. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church by Rev. Hansen. Mrs. Schwarz was one of those quiet, unassuming women, who do their work well, that live their lives full and complete. Of her it can be said that she attended to the needs of her family and fulfilled her functions to society as a neighbor and friend as few women do. She did all this so unconcerned, without show or outward sign, that some may think she did not as much as others do. But we know that she did, and more. We know of her work in times of long ago when she with her husband first came to make their home on these prairies. We know the sacrifices and patience required to brave all the trials of pioneer life and help to make a home and secure a competency. And all this she did and with a mother's heart and mother's instinct. And after some of the trials were over; after the country became more settled and civilization had placed more of her luxuries among us and gives us more of her sweets, she was still the same kind mother and used these same gifts to make glad her family. Slowly, one by one, the old settlers are disappearing. Their once familiar faces greet us no more. We look for them in vain, but they have walked beyond our ken. Yonder cemeteries hold all that is mortal of the pioneers. On the simple gravestones we read their names and then the mind again can see them as they were when they lived among us -- good men and women. A few more years and the generation with which this good woman lived will take their departure from the earth. Already other hands and faces are seen to take up the work. It is a world of change and when a pioneer departs this life we are impressed the more because they led the way. We only follow.
