Meier 1858-April 4,1934 PROMINENT RESIDENT OF KIRTLEY PASSES AWAY AT 75; BURIED AT HARRISON Following several weeks of serious illness, the last two weeks of which were spent in the Lusk hospital, Mrs. Johanna Meier, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of the Kirtley community, passed away at the age of 75 years. Mrs. Meier suffered from a heart ailment and other complications conjunctive with her advanced years. Her death occurred at 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 4th. Mrs. Meier is survived by six sons and one daughter, Walter and Edward of Harrison, Ben, of Kirtley, Albert of Lusk, and two sons and the daughter of St. Louis, Mo. Her husband passed away little more than a year ago. Three sisters, of Centralia, Ill., also survive. Funeral services were conducted from the Lutheran church of Harrison, Nebr., at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 8th, Rev. Carl Hellman, pastor, officiating. The remains were laid at rest in the Harrison cemetery. George Earl Peet of the Peet mortuary of this city, had charge of funeral arrangements. Johanna Kohlmeyer was born in New Minden, Ill., where she attained womanhood and was married to Charles W. Meier. Together they moved to St. Louis, where they made their home for a number of years. From there they came to Kirtley, where the family set up residence more than 25 years ago, and where they have since resided. Mrs. Meier was considered a woman of outstanding character and ideals and was loved by all her neighbors and those who made her acquaintance. She was a devout Christian, and lived her religious ideals as well as preached them. She was a member of the Lutheran church for many years and was one of its staunchest supporters. Many friends gathered for the last rites Sunday afternoon, proving the high esteem in which she had been held during her life in this vicinity. The Lusk Free Lance, Thursday, April 12, 1934
