Johannes Henge, Jr., was the son of Johannes (John) Henge, Sr. The father was one of four children of Georg Ludwig Hengey (sic) of Souderton, Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. Johannes Henge, Jr., was the son of Johannes (John) Henge, Sr. The father was one of four children of Georg Ludwig Hengey (sic) of Souderton, Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. The Henge surname was changed to Hankey and has been spelled: Hangey, Hange, Henge, Hengen, Henky, and Hankey. In Switzerland, it was spelled Hinge. We started searching for this Henge gravestone in 1992, after learning the Moser family had found it after WWII on their farm. The original location of the gravestone was on the Weller Farm in the 1700s, which was sold to the Mosers, who sold part of their farm to the Maple Run Golf Course. George "Jerry" Moser and his sons purchased the farm in the early 1940s. At that time there were eight gravestones. Russell Moser remembers that, when he was about eight years old, about 1944, a government truck arrived and made two trips to remove the eight headstones, which were still intact and readable. He thought they were going to Frederick, but never heard where. After WWII, the Mosers bought a new tractor that plowed deeper than before. The Mosers' tractor's wheel fell into a gopher hole where this gravestone for Johannes Henge was discovered. The Mosers stored it in their garage and showed it to us there in 1992. Prior to our next visit in 2011, the Mosers had mounted the gravestone near its original location on the adjacent Maple Run Golf Course. However, when they realized that the grounds keepers' lawnmowers might damage the fragile gravestone, the Mosers retrieved it. Recently, Mr. Russell Moser installed the gravestone in a concrete base with one of his handmade, white concrete fence posts, on the corner of his and the Golf Course property, 120 feet from the original gravesite in the Maple Run Golf Course "near a Walnut tree."
