Johannes Jochim Severin was born November 18, 1858, in Scott County, the son of Johann and Friedricka (Gabelhay) Severien. He was raised in the vicinity of Davenport and received his education in the Scott County schools. He married Clara Wilhelmine Jons on December 23, 1885, in Durant. Together they farmed near Bennett for five years, then moved on the farm near Clarence, where they have ever since resided. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Clarence. He was a faithful and kind husband and father. The community had the greatest respect for the deceased by all who knew him. Surviving are his wife Clara; three sons, Harry (Carolyn) Severin, Raymond (Hilda) Severin and Elmer (Blanche) Severin, all of Clarence; two daughters, Irma (Arthur) Bachman and Eleanor Severin, both of Clarence; two sisters, Anna (Henry) Miller of Glenside, Canada and Dora (John) Wiese of Davenport; one brother, Henry (Margaretha) Saverien of Hallock, Minnesota; and three grandchildren.
