Description	:	JOHN MAROLF - John Marolf, a son of John and Maria Marolf was born in Canton Berne, SWZ on Apr 29, 1844. As a youth of 20, he emigrated to America and settled near Wilton, IA. There he became acquainted with Miss Maria Marolf and they were united in marriage on March 9, 1871. They resided near Wilton on a farm until 1875, when they moved to Dayton Twp in Iowa County, where they lived 33yrs. Read More	JOHN MAROLF - John Marolf, a son of John and Maria Marolf was born in Canton Berne, SWZ on Apr 29, 1844. As a youth of 20, he emigrated to America and settled near Wilton, IA. There he became acquainted with Miss Maria Marolf and they were united in marriage on March 9, 1871. They resided near Wilton on a farm until 1875, when they moved to Dayton Twp in Iowa County, where they lived 33yrs. While on the farm, Mr Marolf's health began to fail and he was compelled to retire. They then made Guernsey, IA their home for 9yrs. In their declining years M&M Marolf saw the need of being nearer their children. They moved to Mt.Pleasant to live with their son, Fred and family in their beautiful country home about a mile north of the city. Here they received every kind attention that children may show their aged parents. John Marolf united with the Methodist church in 1866 and remained ever a faithful, interested member. Eight children came to cheer the home of M&M Marolf. One died early in life. Caroline, later Mrs Fred B.Erteld, died Dec 17, 1914; J.L.Marolf in business at Atlantic, IA; G.Fred Marolf of Mt.Pleasant; Mrs Edith (sic)Hoffman of Mt.Pleasant; Mrs Catharine Schuessler of Muscatine; Mrs Lydia Cochran of Guernsey, IA and Wm. P. Marolf of Pasco, WA. In all the years of his physical ailment Mr Marolf wqas patient, quietly enduring his suffering as a good Soldier of his Christ. About a week before his demise he was stricken with asthma which caused his heart to fail and he died unexpectedly in his chair on Nov 14th. He had attained the goodly age of 77yrs, 6mos, and 14days. He leaves to moun him, his aged and beloved companion; one sister, Mrs Elizabeth Rost of Quincy, IL; 6 children; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and other relatives and a host of friends. A sweet-sprited soul he was, living his faith in everyday life. To his family as well as to his church and the communities where he lived, his memory will be sacred. The gems of humility, loyalty, Christian fortitude and strength of character shine in his crown. The funeral was conducted from the Fred Marolf home. Rev. W. L. Nagel, of Warsaw , Illinois, his former pastor had charge of the service and spoke from the Text Phil. 1.21. A mixed quartette rendered two beautiful numbers. The sons lovingly bore the remains to their last resting place in Forest Home cemetery. Mt.Pleasant, IA, Daily News: Nov 19, 1921 NOTE: Immigrated to the U.S. in 1864. Parents were Johannes and Maria Gross Marolf NOTE: One child not listed is George Fred Marolf, who passed away on March 12, 1971 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. His wife Alma preceded him in death by 6 days. Their obituaries state they lived in Mount Pleasant for 54 years before moving to Colorado 8 years prior to their passing.
