Description	:	SOUTH PARIS - John A. Capponi Sr., 93, formerly of Mexico, Maine, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born in Auburn, May 3, 1923, the eldest child of Felix and Grace (Jannace) Capponi. John was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephen's High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a signalman. Capponi Sr., 93, formerly of Mexico, Maine, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born in Auburn, May 3, 1923, the eldest child of Felix and Grace (Jannace) Capponi. John was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephen's High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a signalman. He proudly shared stories about his experiences in WWII; these stories were told and retold many times throughout the years and enjoyed by all who heard them, young and old. John married Arlene (Conant) on July 14, 1946. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage; she passed in June 1999. Following the death of his wife, John shared the last 16 years of his life with Theresa Diconzo. John was very fortunate to have shared his life with two amazing women. He was employed for many years with Oxford Paper Company. He also owned and operated Capponi's Clock and Watch Repair out of his home since 1964. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Surviving are his children, John A. Capponi Jr., of Bonita Springs, Fla.; Pamela Bulger and husband Dan, of Roxbury; and David M. Capponi and wife Julie, of Fairfield; two sisters, Veronica McLean, of Connecticut; and Madeline Libby, of Mexico; a brother, Frank Capponi, of Connecticut; five grandchildren, Aaron Capponi and wife Colleen, Jason Capponi, Katie Hicks and husband Dylan, Kevin Capponi and wife Kayla, and Michael Capponi; and five great-grandchildren, Alaina Capponi, Rocco Capponi, Dustin Capponi, Gunnar Hicks and Kamber Capponi. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Arlene; a son, Timothy; and a granddaughter, Jennifer. The family would like to thank the remarkable staff at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris; their care for our dad John was incredible and will forever be appreciated. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of S.G. Thibault Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Services, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford.
