Description	:	Services were held for John A. DeBelts who having been in failing health, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 1, 2003 at Sioux Valley Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 85 years, seven months and 21 days. John A. DeBelts was born at New Underwood, SD on Jun. 1, 1917, the son of Debelt and Jennie (Johnson) DeBelts. He attained the age of 85 years, seven months and 21 days. John A. DeBelts was born at New Underwood, SD on Jun. 1, 1917, the son of Debelt and Jennie (Johnson) DeBelts. He moved to Lennox with his family at three years of age where he received his education and grew up. He attended Vietor School. On Oct. 28, 1940 he was united in marriage to Esther Mae Behrends at her parental home in Lennox. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in the Lennox and Hurley areas from 1943 to 1948. They then farmed south of Lennox for ten years before moving to Sioux Falls. John was employed at American Freight in Sioux Falls for 20 years until his retirement. They had made their home in Lennox and Sioux Falls since that time. His wife died on Jun. 5, 2001. Since then, John has been a resident of Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1959, his father in 1963, one daughter in infancy in 1948, one grandson, Andrew Jones, in 1982; two brothers: Herman DeBelts and Fred DeBelts; three sisters, Helen Smit, Carrie Smit and Ida Henke. He was the last surviving member of the Debelt DeBelts family. Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons and their wives: LeRoy and Sharyn DeBelts of Sioux Falls and Maurice and Jeanne DeBelts of Marion; two daughters: Beverly Jones of Franklin, TN and Gloria Merritt and her husband, Gary, of Westminster, CO; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
