Mr. Meling was born in Norway on September 1, 1849, and came to this country in 1875, settling near Gilman, where he has lived ever since. Mr. Meling was born in Norway on September 1, 1849, and came to this country in 1875, settling near Gilman, where he has lived ever since. On June 3, 1875, he was united in marriage with Bertha Larson at Marshalltown. His wife died on December 28, 1903. Ten children were born to the couple, seven of whom are living. One died in infancy; one son, Benjamin died on October 16, 1908; and one daughter, Mrs. Allan Thorson, died on May 28, 1910. Those living are Lewis, John, Gifford, Clara, and Mesdames Tillie Sampson and Pauline Thorson, of Gilman, and Mrs. John Alden, of Montour. There are also two brothers, Andrew of O'Brien County, and Benjamin of Palo Alto County. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, with a prayer service at the home at 1:30, and services at the Stavanger Church near Dunbar at 3:00. Rev. J.S. Westfall officiating.
