He was acquainted with Chief Sitting Bull, Chief Ouray, and others. Kellar often told how he arrived at the village of Ouray to find the Indian Chief ill, and how he cured him with a sinple remedy. His services were appreciated and he was adopted into the tribe as Ouray’s brother. He was also adopted by a Washington tribe of Indians when he succeeded in rescuing an Indian boy from drowning.” Chief Ouray (died 24 August 1880) was Ute leader in Ignacio, Colorado.
