John was born February 12, 1925 to Arcade and Mary Ellen (Buckley) Driver in Pueblo Colorado. The family was in Colorado homesteading at that time. A few years later the family moved back to the Waterville Washington area. John's dad, Arcade, became the night Marshall for a time before moving to the family to the Usk area during John's senior year. John graduated from Cusick in 1943. John worked at the Diamond Match sawmill in Cusick while helping on the farm. He married Martha Lindsey in 1946 and purchased the Lindsey family homestead on Skookum creek. There he and Martha had a family (Gary and Linda) and built their home, which grew into the family "Double D farm". John and Martha, Gary and Kay, were in the dairy business for 36 years until 1996. The family recently sold the farm on Skookum creek and moved to Dalkena. During the 60 plus years that John has been a member of the Usk community he has been actively involved in several organizations taking many leadership rolls. He was a 4-H dairy leader for 10 years followed by several years of service on the Pend Oreille County Fair Board serving as manager for many of those years. He also was a board member on the Pend Oreille County and Inland Empire Dairy Herd Improvement Associations, the Pend Oreille County Soil Conservation District and the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. Recently he has enjoyed membership and leadership rolls at the Calispell, Skookum, and Davis Lake Granges as well as the Pomona Grange. But his greatest love has been his involvement with the Masonic Lodge. John joined the Newport Masonic Lodge in 1983. There he held many offices including serving as Worshipful Master three times and District 30 Deputy. With his son Gary and grandson Jon Paul as both Grange members and Masonic Lodge members, he has enjoyed the distinction of having both a three-generation Grange family and Masonic family. John is survived by his son Gary and Kay Driver of Dalkena and daughter Linda and Brian Edwards of Moses Lake. Gary's children and grandchildren are Leslie Ann and Devon Rowe with Avery, Jordan and Birkeley of Vancouver WA, Jill and Matt Stevie of Palmer AK, Jon Paul Driver at WSU and Jessica Driver at home. Linda's children and grand children Amanda and Brock Anderson with Braydon, Jennifer and Mike De Hoog, Michael Edwards and Stephen Musa (Liberia West Africa), all of Moses Lake WA. Brother in law Zane Lindsey, sister- in law Marylou Driver and Brother-in-law Emanuel (Beez) Besel, plus numerous loving and caring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha of 53 years, his parents, sister Lucille Besel and brothers Harold and Donald Driver. There will be a public viewing at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 to 6 pm and Wednesday, February 4th, 9am to 5 pm. The Memorial Services will be Thursday, February 5th at 1pm in the Usk Community Hall followed by a potluck meal. Memorial Contributions may be made in John's name to in John's name to the Usk Community Hall and the Newport Masonic Lodge. SHERMAN-KNAPP FUNERAL HOME IN NEWPORT is in charge of arrangements.
