He came to Seneca almost 35 years ago, when Seneca was but a country settlement, and during all the years since has been a continuous resident of this town. He was first employed here as a salesman in one of the community stores and continued in this capacity for almost ten years. His first venture into business on his own account was in the retail grocery line, 25 years ago his location being in the building now occupied by R.... He was first employed here as a salesman in one of the community stores and continued in this capacity for almost ten years. His first venture into business on his own account was in the retail grocery line, 25 years ago his location being in the building now occupied by R. J. Buchanan. Later he enlarged and opened a grocery in what is now part of the Lunney Drug Store. Later he moved again to West Main Street, and at the time of his death conducted a jewelry store on East Main Street. Mr. Brock's East Main street establishment reflected in a measure his personal characteristics--well arranged, complete, and his customers relied on his recommendation of quality and value. Mr. Brock served for six or more years as a deacon in the Seneca Baptist church. As much as in his private business he devoted careful attention to his duties here. As the senior member of the board his opinion was first sought with reference to church matters and he gave voice to his suggestions only after mature and prayerful considerations..... Funeral services were held in the Baptist church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev Gardner, the pastor..... In the death of John Brock, Seneca citizens fully and keenly realize their loss. He was a true friend, and his devotion to those he loved would make a bright chapter in any life. While he is gone from the scenes, the conflicts, the sorrows and pleasures of life, he still lives in the hearts of those who knew him best." There were two additional children: Janie Sue Brock 1893-1896 and Gladys Marie Brock, 1909-1910.
