Description	:	John A. Smedra, 84, of Loup City died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City. Visitation will continue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.... Read More	John A. Mr. Smedra was born May 4, 1914, on a farm near Boelus to Joseph and Helen (Gorecki) Smedra. He attended rural schools near Boelus and graduated from Ashton High School. Upon completing his education, he held several jobs in Sherman and Howard counties and farmed with his parents. He married Grace A. Badura on Jan. 31, 1939, at Loup City. The couple lived and farmed in Sherman County, buying the home place in 1953. He also was a Sherman County supervisor for more than 20 years. In July 1995, he entered Rose Lane Home in Loup City, living there for the rest of his life. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 5455 in Loup City. Survivors include his wife; three sons, John R. and Frank, both of Ord, and Tom of Mason City; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Conrad, Alex and Alfred Smedra, all of Loup City and Stanley of North Platte. He was preceded in death by an three brothers, Ignatz, Zigmund, and Raymond Smedra, one infant sister, Mary Smedra and one sister, Esther Kusek.
