March 17, 1951 ****** Hull Index, Hull, Iowa; January 20, 1899 It will hardly be surprising for the readers of the Index to note that we this week chronicle the death of one of our aged citizens, John Andrews. He was well known to us all, having lived for many years past on his farm 3 ½ miles north of Hull. Last fall he moved into town, feeling satisfied that his old age was a bar to any further activity in farm life. He died at his home opposite J.W. Still’s on Wednesday morning. Mr. Andrews, at the time of his death was nearly seventy-eight years old. He was of Scotsch-Irish parentage, having been born at Kolrain, Ireland, on May 1st, 1821. He emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1839. In 1842 he was united in marriage to her who mourns the loss of her life companion. Later the family moved to Illinois, coming to their farm home near Hull in 1884. Nine children were born to them; four daughters and three sons are still living, those dwelling at Hull being the well known Will, and Mrs. Frank Beckman. Mr. Andrews was a member of the Congregational Church at Hull, though originally of the Presbyterian Faith. He was one of the best read old gentlemen on matters of general interest that one could meet, situated as he was and removed from the active participation in the affairs of today. The immediate cause of his death was the “Grippe” though he has been quite feeble for some time past. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Congregational Church. The sympathy of friends is extended to her who is left to take up the burden of life alone, and to the children, all of whom however, are matured men and women. ******
