John Arnold Watkins was born May 18, 1875, at Manhattan, Illinois, and passed away in St. Mary's hospital at North Platte, Nebr., May 2, 1949, at age of 73 years, 11 months, and 14 days, after having suffered a sudden stroke of appoplexy while visiting at the home of step-son, Floyd E. Breternitz, in North Platte the night before, while en route from Arnold, Nebraska, to Grant, Nebraska, to visit relatives and friends. After having moved to Venango, Nebraska, with his parents in 1887, he resided there for about twenty-five years, when he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and later to Arnold, where he has lived for the past nineteen years. He was member of the Friends Church. He is survived by two sons, Victor Watkins of Salina, Kansas, and Harlan Watkins of Monterey, California; one step-son, Floyd Breternitz of North Platte; six grandchildren; one brother, Richard Watkins of Venango, and one sister, Ellen Hopkins of Denver, and many other relatives and friends. Music at the funeral services was furnished by Marion Thayer, vocalist, with Miss Fay Lyon at the piano. Assisting as pallbearers were Orville Watkins, Billy Watkins, Jay Watkins, Pete Koontz, Chas. Hatch and Corwin Young.
