Description	:	John August Dick was born on January 10, 1909 near Schaller, to John and Magdalena (Schmitt) Dick. He grew up on the family farm south of Schaller, experiencing the adventures and antics of browing up in a large family of five brothers and one sister. Read More	John August Dick was born on January 10, 1909 near Schaller, to John and Magdalena (Schmitt) Dick. He grew up on the family farm south of Schaller, experiencing the adventures and antics of browing up in a large family of five brothers and one sister. As a young man working on the family farm, John met his future, bride, Eleanor Vivian Feilmeier. They were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Church in Early on January 7, 1936 and began married life together on a farm south of Schaller.About two years later they moved to a farm two miles north of Early; Three years later, John and Eleanor moved to a farm-2 1/2 miles southwest of Early, where they would spend the next 36 years raising their family. The family began with the birth of twin daughters Jean and Joan, continuing with the additions of Sheryl, Sharon and Barbara and was completed with a son, Robert. Jdhn was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early and a member of the Knights of Columbus, his faith in God providing an example and inspiration to the rest of the family. Besides farming the 320 acres, John also raised livestock, including a herd of Brown Swiss dairy cows, which he took special pride in tending and developing. Following a heart attack in 1964, John was forced to give up the livestock and dairy cow operation but continued in grain farming. In 1976, after having completed a successful farming career, John and Eleanor moved to Early, into a house they planned and helped build. During the next 15 years, John enjoyed retirement with fishing continuing to be one of his favorite hobbies. He looked forward to the daily morning coffee get-togethers with the area men who provided friendship and comraderie. Being a dedicated family man, John displayed a deep affection for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His retirement provided many opportunities for John and Eleanor to take trips to visit them. He always enjoyed having the grandchildren and great grandchildren around for holidays, vacation stays or occasional visits. Following illnesses in September, 1990, John and Eleanor moved to Park View.Care Center in Sac City where they resided until their deaths. John was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor on June 12,1993, and by his brothers Henry and Frank and his parents.
