Andrews was the much respected tax collector in Bonifay. Note that although his headstone says he died in 1920, his obituary clearly states 1921. B. , Bonifay, FL Surnames: ANDREWS Published in Holmes County Advertiser, Bonifay, Florida Friday, March 18, 1921 Tax Collector Andrews Dead Yesterday afternoon, at five-thirty all Bonifay citizens were saddened when the news spread over the town that Tax Collector, J. B. Andrews had passed into the Great Beyond. Mr. Andrews from his boyhood had been very frail and his health never good, but for the past year had been growing more feeble and weaker and Wednesday afternoon he was taken with a nervous chill and collapsed into an unconscious state from which he never rallied, and the end came late Thursday afternoon. In spite of his ill health and infirmities, he lived a useful life, brightened the home and made glad the hearts of his loved ones. He was held in high esteem by all who know him and had the confidence of the entire county as an official, having faithfully served as tax assessor and collector for the past twelve consecutive years, and was re-elected as tax collector in the general election last fall. Mr. Andrews was 53 years of age, was born and raised in the western part of Holmes county near Sandy Creek church, and moved to Bonifay twelve years ago. He is survived by his wife and several brothers and sisters, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Sandy Creek Baptist church this afternoon, Rev. A. T. Sims, his pastor, officiating. One of the was instances of his death is the illness of his wife, who has been confined to her bed for the past four weeks and was unable to attend the funeral. The offices in the court house were closed all day today in honor of the deceased.
