Bradshaw, a resident of Spencer and Clay county for forty-five years, died at his home in Spencer, March 18, aged eighty-one years nine months and eleven days. John B. Bradshaw was born in Pennsylvania June 7, 1845. When about one year old his parents moved to Rockford, Illinois, and a few years later they moved to Mendota, Illinois. Here he lived until he attained the age of nineteen years when he participated in that phrase [sic] of frontier life which is now a historic romance. He crossed what are now the well settled prairie states in a covered wagon and made his home in Colorado. In the year 1871 he moved back to Mendota, Illinois and September 21, 1875 he was married to Miss Evelyn F. Johnson. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Lillian May Thorne of Everly, Mrs. Rosella Warren of Carter, Wyoming, Mrs. Minnie Elma Mason of Spencer and Miss Mary Catherine Bradshaw of Spencer. In the year of 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw homesteaded on a farm one and half miles south of Rossie. They remained on the farm until 1893 when they moved to Spencer, which has been the family home ever since. All through the fifty-one years of his married life Mr. Bradshaw was an example of constant loyalty and affection for his home. His greatest joy was in the well-being of his wife and children. Outside interest were always secondary to these and in the later years, when increasing infirmities grew upon him, nothing gave him more satisfaction than the presence in the home of the children. A remarkable fact in connection with this death is that it is the first death to enter the family circle in the fifty one years since Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw were married. Mr. Bradshaw was a faithful husband and loving father. He was a good, reputable citizen and his decease is mourned by a large circle of friends and neighbors. In addition to his wife and four daughters, Mr. Bradshaw leaves to mourn his decease two brothers, Dennis of Waukegan, Illinois, and Aid of Compton, Illinois. There are also seven grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the home on West Second street Monday afternoon, March 21, conducted by Dr. Herbert Clegg of Grace Methodist church, and interment was made in Riverside cemetery. Among the out of town people who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Thorne of Everly, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Eden of Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Lighter of Moneta, Mrs. L.C. Doan and Jay Doan of Storm Lake, R. Warriner of Marshalltown, and Floyd Johnson of Marengo, Illinois. Spencer Reporter, Spencer, Clay County, Iowa; March 23, 1927.
