| Description | : | John Barcroft Hogeland was the son of Israel Jackson Hogeland and Amanda Malinda Hart who were farmers in Loudoun County, Virginia in the mid-1800's. John worked on the farm into adulthood until the late 1800's. On the 1900 census he listed his occupation as carpenter and by around 1910 was a railway clerk. He married twice. His first spouse was Virginia Green (1853-1890) with whom he had two sons, Morris Green Hogeland (1884-) and Lawrence G. Hogeland (1887-1934).
