Yates Dies of Heart Failure While Asleep After Day's Labor When John B. Yates sought his bed Monday evening to find refreshment and rest from a day's labor, it was to enter the sleep that knows no awakening on earth. Quietly and silently came the message summoning him to the world beyond only his cold and lifeless form was found by those who went to call him Tuesday morning. Mr. Yates occupied a room in a house in Third avenue east, which he owned, but which was rented to Harvey Curtis. He appeared to be in his accustomed rugged health when he retired Monday evening. As it had been his habit to be the first to arise in the morning ad start the fires, after which he would care for the little horse he drove the family thought it strange not to hear him about the house but concluded that he had been unusually tired and had probably overslept himself. At last, a little boy was sent to call. him, but he returned from the room and said Mr. Yates was asleep. A couple of hours afterward Mr. Curtis himself went to the room and as Mr, Yates appeared to be still sleeping he sought to awaken him, when he found that he was dead and evidently had been for some time as the body was cold. A physician was called, who said death had resulted from heart failure. Mr. Yates was born at Greencastle, Ind., Oct. 3. 1848. When a boy he went to Mill Grove, Mo., where he continued to live until April 1904, when he removed to Big Timber. He is survived by a son, Ora E., who is in the employ of government forest service, and a daughter; Mrs, Joseph Bryan, who lives with her husband on a ranch a short distance west of town. He was a hard-working, industrious man of cheerful disposition and quiet, unassuming manners, with a pleasant word and smile for all. For the past couple of years, he had been employed by the county as caretaker of the public cemetery and as such was known as faithful and conscientious employee, who never neglected the humble duties imposed upon him. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon in the cemetery he had so well cared for. It was attended by the deceased's relatives and many friends. The son, who was in one of the camps of the national forest south of Livingsotbm was present, having been summoned as soon as the death of his father became known.
