Description	:	John Becker was born November 3, 1857, in Rhine Province, Kris Sadriouie, Germany. He came to American March 2, 1873, with his parents, who homesteaded near Friend. May 1, 1881, he was married to Miss Anna Gehart at Friend and later the same year came to Exeter and began farming on the place now occupied by their youngest son, Alphonsus. Nine children were born to this union, During the fifty-six years of their married life only one death occurred in the family, a small daughter of their daughter, Mrs. Louise Crick. They continued living on the same farm until 1917, when... Read More	John Becker was born November 3, 1857, in Rhine Province, Kris Sadriouie, Germany. He came to American March 2, 1873, with his parents, who homesteaded near Friend. May 1, 1881, he was married to Miss Anna Gehart at Friend and later the same year came to Exeter and began farming on the place now occupied by their youngest son, Alphonsus. Nine children were born to this union, During the fifty-six years of their married life only one death occurred in the family, a small daughter of their daughter, Mrs. Louise Crick. They continued living on the same farm until 1917, when they built a large modern home in north Exeter and retired from the farm. May 1, 1931, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Becker was a pioneer here and suffered many hardships during his early days at farming, but accomplished much and bought other farms besides the home place. He was a kind and loving husband and father; and was always interested in his home and children and their families. He was especially fond of his little grandchildren. He was director of St. Stephens' Catholic Church, Inc. for many years. He always took an active part in the affairs of the church and of the city. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife and family, also his neighbors and friends. He was of a jovial disposition and made friends everywhere he went by his kind words. Mr. Becker had been in poor health for several weeks. He passed away Sunday morning, February 28, 1937. He leaves besides his wife the following children: Mrs. Treasa Spitz, Leo, Paul, and Alphonsus, all of Exeter; Mrs. Minnie Petitt of Santa Ana, Cal.; Mrs. Louise Crick of Lincoln; Mrs. Ursula Johns of Concordia, Kas.; Edward of Newcastle, Wyo. and Frank of Idaho; twenty-seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at St. Stephen's Church Wednesday morning at 9:30. The Nebraska Signal March 1937
