Father Belk died Saturday night after an illness of several months. His death was not unexpected as he has been growing very feeble in the last year. He made his home, for the last four months of his life with his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Weltmer, of District No. 2. The funeral services were held in the Padonia M. E. church of which he has been a faithful and most helpful member ever since the church was built. A large number of people were present at the funeral services although the weather was very cold. The funeral services were conducted in an impressive manner by the pastor, Rev. (obit for Mrs. John Simmons cited 1st) Scarcely had the first pang of sorrow began to wane after the sad death of Mrs. Simmons than we were called to mourn the loss of one more of our number. This time John Belk, a relative near and dear to the writer, was called to journey to that undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns. John Belk was born near Jamestown, Russell county, Kentucky, April 17th, 1811. Emigrated to Missouri in the year 1838. United with the Baptist church in Buchanan county in 1840. He made his first trip to Kansas in August, 1854 and moved to his homestead near Padonia in 1855. In 1860 a Methodist society was organized at his home under the labors of Rev. W. W. Buffington, at which time he united with the Methodist organization. For a number of years regular services were held at his house and campmeeting in his grove near his old home. His last sickness and death occurred Jan. 20, at the home of his only daughter, Mrs. J. J. Weltmer. His age was 82 years, 9 months and 13 days. The funeral services were conducted by Rev.
