As usual, Mr. Bendschneider had gone to the Legion hall after dinner to play cards. He became ill and was taken home about 3 o'clock, and in less than three hours, he had passed away. His family and friends received the word of his sudden illness and death with deep regret, realizing fully that they had lost a faithful companion. John A. Bendschneider was born in Sartzenbuttle, Holstein, Germany, on Nov. 21, 1857 and passed away at his home in Victor, Friday, October 14, 1932, aged 74 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany. At the age of 26 years he came to the United States and came directly to Iowa county, Iowa, where he had since resided. In 1888 he was united in marriage to Anna Soedt. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. In 1889 he and his wife moved to the farm southeast of Victor where they lived until 1920 when they moved to the present home in Victor. Mr. Bendschneider was a man to be depended upon, a friend and neighbor in deed and in need. He was always anxious about the welfare of his children and home. His loss will be keenly felt in the circle of his home and in the community. His widow and two sons, George of Victor and Henry of Chicago, two daughters, Mrs. Ray Randall and Mrs. Ray Hollis, both of Los Angeles, CA., and four grandchildren, Laurene, Marjorie and Marie Bendschneider and Ben Gerald Bendschneider are left to mourn the passing of a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St. James Luthern church with Rev. A. Mueller officiating. Pall bearers were Henry Refer, Chris Stoker, S. U. Mussetter, Frank Heitman, August Wauters, H. W. Chittenden, Henry Stavenhagen, Walter Muller. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Relatives from out-of-town who attended this funeral were: Mrs. Frank Stamer and son, James of Bird Island, MN., Julius Soedt and two daughters, Luella and Ethel of Williamsburg and Henry Bendschneider of Chicago, IL.
