Mr. Fairbanks was a member of Rebekah Lodge 453, Cedar Bayou Methodist Church in Baytown, the Lions Club and the Odd Fellows. He was past grand master of Goose Creek Lodge 960 IOOF, a past district department grand master of the Odd Fellows, past chief patriarch of Goose Creek Encampment 160, past deputy grand patriarch of the State of Texas, a charter member and past captain of Canton, Groose Creek No. 5, past deputy commander, second regiment, second brigade patriarch militant, deputy State of Texas and held the rank of lieutenant colonel retired. He was awarded the Declaration of Chivalry in the order and the commandry. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was a retired reserve police officer in Baytown. He was also active in civil defense. Survivors include one son Bert John Fairbanks of Chatsworth, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Karol F. Roberts of Aurora, Colo., Mrs. Gloria F. East of McComb; one brother Kemp C. Fairbanks of Vista, Calif.; one sister Mrs. Norma F. Jacklin of Alhambra, Calif.; 11 grandchildren including David and Scott East and Sherri E. Hodges.
