Contributed by Jacie - 16 Mar 1911 - Tipton Advertiser page 10 - John Bickford was born in the state of New York, Dec. 12, 1822, and died at his home six miles southeast of Tipton, Iowa, on March 10, 1911. He leaves to mourn his departure, his aged wife, two brothers, Reuben and Wright, of Ohio, four sons and two daughters, besides numerous other relatives and friends. In the 9th day of June 1867, he was married to Mary M. Kensinger. To this union were born seven children, Mrs. Anna E. Laucamp, Jacob F., Adam M. Bickford of Rock Rapids, Iowa; James P. Bickford, of Nicols, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah L. Myers of Trosky, Minn.; and Mrs. Alice M. Owen, deceased. In the hour of his country's need he responded to the call of Abraham Lincoln and enlisted in Co. A., second Iowa Cavalry, in which company he served for three years, being honorably discharged at the close of the war. Shortly after his marriage he and his wife were converted and joined the M.E. Church at Eureka, on Sept. 9, 1877, of which church he was a faithful member. Funeral services were held at South Bethel M.E. Church by the pastor at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment was made at the Whitmer cemetery. The services at the grave were conducted by the members of the G.A.R. from Tipton.
