His parents Gottlieb and Louise Boelke Bohnet lived southeast of Elgin until 1914 when they moved to Hettinger County south of Bentley, North Dakota. John farmed with his parents and went to school in the Soli School in Hettinger County. John married Emelia Magstadt November 12, 1925. Emelia went to the country school in Adams County south of Bentley, North Dakota.John and Emelia were married at Emelia's parents' farm by Rev. Sayler. They made their home at the Gottlieb Bohnet farm and later bought the farm. The union had three children: Donald Bohnet, Violet Kuntz and Robert Bohnet. They lived on the same farm 40 years and later moved into Elgin, North Dakota. Robert lives on the family farm being the third generation to do so.
