Mr. Bowden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bowden, was born Feb. 22, 1867, in Wales. When he was a small child he came to America with his parents, settling in Illinois. In 1891 he was married to Julia Thorne, who died February 1, 1911. To this union two sons were born, Arthur of near Masonville, and Percy, who passed away November 5, 1936. In December 1913, he went to England and on Sept. 16, 1914, he was married to Emily Jones in New Port England, after which they came to America, arriving in Independence Oct. 6, 1914. They lived on a farm four miles south of Lamont until October 1, 1936, when they retired and moved to Lamont. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Elliott, who lives on the home farm, and Marjorie at home; two sons, Arthur of Masonville, and Kenneth, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two sons, one sister and four brothers. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. C. C. Winter, pastor and Rev. F. H. Schepple of Dubuque officiating. Pall bearers were Ernest Whitney, Dale Cole, Joe Erunkhorst, James Pech, John Cuthbertson, and Charles Wilson.
