Description	:	John Bray, a resident of this city for more than forty years, passed away at his home shortly before midnight Wednesday night. Although Mr. Bray had been in failing health for a number of years he was bedfast only about a week preceding his death. Mr. and Mrs. Bray returned about two weeks ago from Madison, S.D., where they had visited at the home of their son, W.E. Bray. Mr. and Mrs. Bray returned about two weeks ago from Madison, S.D., where they had visited at the home of their son, W.E. Bray. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Ross Funeral Home and burial will be made in Grace Hill cemetery. John Bray was born at Elizabeth, Ill., Oct. 14, 1849, and passed away in Hawarden Oct. 9, 1935, having attained the advanced age of almost 86 years. He grew to young manhood in Illinois and was united in marriage there with Sarah Ellen Hardacre March 13, 1872. To this union were born six children, three of whom preceded him in death. In 1886 he came to Iowa, locating in Plymouth county near LeMars, where he engaged in farming. In the early nineties he came to Calliope and operated a meat market and was also engaged in the stock buying business. Later he disposed of this business and started a second hand furniture store in Hawarden but he retired about ten years ago and since then he and his wife have made their home in the north part of this city. When a young man in Illinois he united with the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Bray observed their golden wedding more than thirteen years ago and in his death. Mrs. Bray will sorely miss the companionship of him with whom she traveled life's pathway for more than sixty-three years, sharing the joys and sorrows of life. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Wm. E. of Madison, S.D.; Joe R. of Hawarden and Walter M. of Los Angeles, Calif. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 10/10/1935
