He was born January 10, 1927, in Ridge Spring, SC, the middle child of the late John Broadus, Sr., and Ela Jane Sims Asbill. He graduated from Ridge Spring High School and served his country as a member of the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Read More	John Broadus Asbill, Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 12, 2009. He was 82 years old. He was born January 10, 1927, in Ridge Spring, SC, the middle child of the late John Broadus, Sr., and Ela Jane Sims Asbill. He graduated from Ridge Spring High School and served his country as a member of the United States Navy at the end of World War II. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1950 with a degree in accounting. He married Alice Frances Funchess on August 9, 1958. He worked at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for 39 years, retiring as the bureau chief of the Department of Finance. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church and served as a deacon and an active member of the Homer Jeffcoat Sunday School Class. He always played an active role in the community and served in leadership roles in his children's numerous activities. He served as a Dixie Youth Baseball and Royal Ambassadors Basketball Coach. He served as president of the Dutch Fork Optimist Club and the Columbia Executives Club. He always had a smile for everyone he met. He loved his family, and his children say he never missed any of their events growing up. He adored and was adored by his grandchildren. He enjoyed Gamecock sports and spending time with his family at Edisto Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Winnie Asbill Dancy. He is survived by his wife, Alice Frances Funchess Asbill, son, Steven John Asbill, Sr. and his wife Dana Anshus Asbill of Greencastle, PA; son, Brian Sims Asbill and his wife Terri Brown Asbill of Lexington; daughter, Alison Jean Asbill Dominic and husband Jerry Dominic of Lexington; son, Jason Rhett Asbill and his wife Kim Everitt Asbill of Lexington; sister, Betty Asbill Kneece and her husband Walter H. Kneece of West Columbia; and 11 grandchildren, Steven John Asbill, Jr., Ashlan Jane Asbill, Tyler Macklin Asbill, Joshua Sims Asbill, Justin Michael Dominic, John Martin Dominic, David James Dominic, Savannah Grace Asbill, Courtney Addison Asbill, Hayden Everitt Asbill, Kristin Sims Asbill.
