Description	:	John Broderick, who was born on April 10, 1818 in Galway, Ireland. He married Catherine Maloney about 1843 and while living in Ireland had daughter, Hanora. In 1846, John and Catherine left Ireland and immigrated to Quebec Canada.(Hanora had passed away). They lived in Quebec about four months before heading to the US and settling in Lenox, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. John opened a Tailor shop under the auspices Peck & Co., proprietors of the Lenox Iron Works. Read More	John Broderick, who was born on April 10, 1818 in Galway, Ireland. He married Catherine Maloney about 1843 and while living in Ireland had daughter, Hanora. While living in Massachusetts, John and Catherine had 2 sons: Patrick and John Jr. John sold his Tailor shop in 1850 and moved his family to Deerfield township in Dane County, Wisconsin and purchased land to establish a farm. He opened a Tailor shop, which he ran for two years. Over the next 12 years John and Catherine had 6 more children: Mary, Margaret, Michael, Catherine, Bridget, and Lawrence. The 1870 census states John's farm was valued at $5,000 and his personal wealth was about $850.00 In early 1877, John sold the farm and he and his family moved with a large group of of Irish immigrants to the new township of Dougherty in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. He purchased property in section 9 of the township and built his home and developed his farm. In October of 1877 John was elected as the first city assessor for Dougherty township. John and Catherine lived on their farm until their deaths: Catherine died May 3, 1882 at age 64 and John died Nov 8, 1899 at age 81. They are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty, IA.
