John was the son of Charles and Nellie Clawson Dale. He was a resident of Ottumwa all his life, and he was an employee of John Morrell and Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1973. After his retirement, he was employed at Target Stores. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a 50-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a member of Empire Lodge 269, AF&AM, and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 347. He married Reva Harryman on September 5, 1937. (Reva's obituary states that they were married September 5, 1936. I do not know which year is correct.) He was survived by his wife; a daughter, Diane Bednar of Ottumwa; a son, John P. Dale of Milwaukee; and one grandson. Reece Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The service was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Rev. Wayne Gjerde officiating. O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion was in charge of military services at the grave.
