Sneary, 83, died at 10:26 a.m. March 30, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Lima to Ed and Bertha Ruebush Sneary, who preceded him in death. In March 1947, he married Vaneta Lowery, who died in 1982. In 1987, he married Judy Nichols, who died in 2001. Mr. Sneary retired as a truck driver from Commercial Motor Freight Co., Lima. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3615 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1533, both in Indian Lake, and Teamsters Local 908, Lima. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 273rd Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division. He was in the Battle of the Bulge, a part of Rhineland and the Central Europe campaigns. Survivors include two sons, Michael E. Sneary, of Lima and Terry (Cyndee) Sneary, of Bluffton; two stepsons, Doug (Susie) Nichols and Dwight Nichols, both of Urbana; two daughters, Reva (Jim) Leach, of Harrod, and Mary (Fran) Martin, of Palm Coast, Fla.; a brother, Clyde (Vicki) Sneary, of Lima; three sisters, Inez Stevens, of Lima, and Maxine (Bill) Heffner and Rowena Van Meter, both of Westminster; and 11 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim; a daughter, Janet; five brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Charles, Frank and Bobby; and a sister, Elizabeth Lence. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield. The Rev. Greg Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Westminster, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the cancer society or lung association.
