Description	:	John Calvin Core, of Seymour, Iowa, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 21, 1946, at 8 o'clock, his age being 85 years, 7 months, and 19 days. Mr. Core, son of Abraham and Sarah Ann Sine Core, was born August 2, 1860, at Miracle Run, Monongalia County, West Virginia. Mr. Core, son of Abraham and Sarah Ann Sine Core, was born August 2, 1860, at Miracle Run, Monongalia County, West Virginia. At the age of twelve, he moved with his parents to a farm in Tyler County, West Virginia. On February 24, 1880, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson, in Pennsylvania, just across the state line from West Virginia. To this union two children were born: Elmer Kenneth Core of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Effa Mae Cunningham, who departed this life in 1916 at the age of 32 years. They also adopted and raised one granddaughter, Florence Cunningham, who is now Mrs. Clifford Ballard of Burlington, Iowa. Moving to Sisterville, West Virginia in 1888, he took up the carpentry trade there, and served one term as mayor and two years as deputy U. S. Marshal. In 1904 he moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he was foreman for the San Francisco State Building of the World's Fair, and at the close of the Fair, they moved to Oakville, Iowa. In 1905 the Cores moved to Wayne County, Iowa, and located at Kniffin. He continued the carpenter trade there. In 1918 he took up church work. In 1924 he was called to Bollman Chapel and remained there as pastor for six and a half years. Many souls were saved under his preaching, and in 1931 he was called to Antioch Church. He was Pastor there for almost a year. He then took sick with influenza, and had to give up his preaching. This sickness left him with a weak heart, which he never recovered from. In 1932 their home was destroyed by fire. Then they moved to Seymour, where he was living at the time of his death. Mr. Core leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy; one son, Elmer Kenneth Core of Williamsburg, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert Core of Rayland, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Ash, of Alva, West Virginia. Funeral services were held in the Liggett Funeral Home in Seymour, with Rev. Ward W. Watson officiating. Music was furnished by Virgil Shepherd, Florie Shepherd, Maude Hickerson, and Reva Hughes, with Mary Burchett at the piano. Selections were: "No Night There," "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," and "Going Down the Valley." Pallbearers were: Harve Knowles, Hugh Roberts, John Cook, F. L. Bartlett, George Arnold and Edgar Barber. Internment was in Southlawn Cemetery.
