Description	:	John C. Richards, 84, of Luray, departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 1965, at 6 p.m. in the Page Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for only two hours. Mr. Richards had suffered from a heart attack. He was born in Ida on December 12, 1881, and was the son of the late John W. and Dianna Young Richards. Richards, 84, of Luray, departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 1965, at 6 p.m. in the Page Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for only two hours. Mr. Richards had suffered from a heart attack. He was born in Ida on December 12, 1881, and was the son of the late John W. and Dianna Young Richards. He was one of Luray’s oldest residents and of the Page counties well-known chair manufacturers. At the age of 14 he was taught how to make his first chair from his father. From there they moved to Luray settling on Mechanic Street where his factory was located. He and his sons worked together for a number of years in the factory known as the J.C. Richards and Sons Chair Factory. For a good many years he also carried on a small tourist trade over different parts of the country. He had his own trailer in which he traveled with his family from location to location. He was noted for his fine workmanship and excellent character. He was a man of quiet nature who seldom spoke an unkind word to his family. On July 3, 1912, he was united in marriage with the late Mittie F. Deavers who passed away May 31, 1945. He was the father of six children of whom all survive except one, Clarence, who died April 4, 1964. Two sons, Marvin W. and John Richards, both of Luray, three daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Mary) Baggarly, of Browntown, Mrs. Roy (Elsie) Sours, of Stanley, and Miss Dorothy Richards, of Luray, survive. One sister, Miss Ida M. Richards, of Martinsburg, also survives. Two brothers, three sisters and one son preceded him in death. Six grandchildren survive their grandfather. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, from the Chapel of the Bradley Funeral Home with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. O.L. Martin officiated.
