Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula officiating. Musical selections will include "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace," and "Whispering Hope." Full military honors will be conducted by the Nashua VFW Post #6792. John Cecil Fisher was born May 17, 1942, in Charles City, IA, the son of Cecil W. & Esther F. (Conner) Fisher. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1960. On May 31, 1960, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On November 26, 1963, John was discharged as a Lance Corporal. On April 24, 1965, John was united in marriage to Evelyn Steinberg at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charles City. To this union, two sons were born. He worked most of his life at Salsbury Chemicals in Charles City, retiring in 2004. John was a life member of the North American Hunting Club, and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of the Seymour United Methodist Church, and served on the S.P.R.C. until the time of his death. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn; two sons, Jon (Amy) Fisher and Randall (Shawn) Fisher both of Nashua; a brother Richard (Doris) Fisher of Harris, MO; three sisters, Elna Korinke of Winter, WI, Sharon (Bruce) McDonald of Del City, OK, Shirley (James) Soldwisch of Waverly, IA; seven grandchildren, Shalyn, Coral, Sierra, Cody, Liberty, Clay, and Cooper Fisher all of Nashua. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Josephine Jensen. Note: A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the Promise City Community Center.
