Description	:	John C. Brownlee, 79, a thirty-six year resident and businessman of Leavenworth, died Saturday morning, September 6, 2003 in Central Washington Hospital. He was born on July 16, 1924 at Spring Coulee, Okanogan, Washington to George W. and Minnie L. (Coffee) Brownlee. The family later moved to Brownlee Flats at Pateros, where John grew up and received his education, graduating from Pateros High School in 1941. The family later moved to Brownlee Flats at Pateros, where John grew up and received his education, graduating from Pateros High School in 1941. John moved to the west side of the Cascades, where he was employed by the Kaiser Ship Yards, for a year, in the construction of ‘Liberty Ships.' In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he returned to Pateros. On March 14, 1947, he married Beverly E. Bonar at Pateros. They moved to Washington Creek, outside of Chelan, where they operated a wheat farm. In 1952, John was employed by the Washington State Highway Department, in Okanogan, which later became Washington State Department of Transportation. In 1967, he was transferred to Leavenworth, where he was District Foreman until his retirement in 1982. In 1971, they purchased the Barclay-Harriet Building and transformed the building into the present Europa Building. In 1983, they purchased the Tumwater building, selling it in 1986. John never really retired, he was always very much involved and supportive in all the family's ventures, right up to his death. John enjoyed woodworking and cabinet-making. At the time of his death, he was restoring cabinets for antique clocks for the Clock Shop. John had a talent and ability for fixing anything out of nothing. He deeply loved his Bev and family and was always surrounded by his wife and loving family at all times. He always looked for and found the positive side of life. He was a member of the Wenatchee Church of Christ, King's Orchard; Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and the Retired Washington State Employees. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bev E. Brownlee of the family home; one daughter, Lerin Brownlee of Leavenworth; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Liz Brownlee of Leavenworth; one sister, Grace Nordang, of Methow; three grandchildren, Marjia Margitich, Olivia Brownlee and Rhys Brownlee. One great-grandchild, Keenan Margitich. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of John C. Brownlee will be conducted at 11:00 o'clock, Wednesday morning, September 10, 2003 in the Pateros Church of Christ with Minister Dale Linge, officiating, and Minister Jim Reppart, assisting. Concluding service and interment will follow in the Pateros Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to the Chelan County Humane Society. Those wishing to make visitation may call at the Ward's Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, September 9, 2003 between Noon and 7 p.m. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
