Born July 30, 1913, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert David and Catherine Morelock Markle. He was the husband of Ethel Yingling Markle, his wife of 65 years. Markle 89, of Manchester John Charles Markle, 89, of Manchester, died Sunday, March 9,2003, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Born July 30, 1913, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert David and Catherine Morelock Markle. He was the husband of Ethel Yingling Markle, his wife of 65 years. They resided in Manchester since 1940. He was retired from the Maintenance Department of the Carroll County Board of Education. He also worked in the ceramic tile business for 10 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, where he had served on the church council. He served in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II, seeing duty in England and France. He was an active member of VFW and the Eagles Lodge. He was a member of the Old Timer Baseball Association of Carroll County. He was an avid baseball player and later a great fan of the sport. He enjoyed horseshoes and playing cards. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Bob Cullison of Manchester; sons and daughters- in-laws Douglas and Leslie Markle of Littlestown, Pa; and Stanley and Renee of Phoenix, Md.; sister Helen Zinn of New Oxford, Pa.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters Edna, Mamie, Lillian, Beatrice, Mildred and Mary; and brothers Roy, David, Ira, Richard and Robert. A funeral service will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church St, Manchester, with the Revs. Matthew and Norma Schenning officiating. Interment will be in the New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Dr., Manchester.
