Description	:	John C. Marsteller, 37, Standard Oil Company Bulk Dealer in Harrison for 15 years, died August 7 at the Chadron Community Hospital from leukemia. He had been a patient for five weeks at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver after the disease was first diagnosed. On August 3 he came home but two days later had to be taken to Chadron by ambulance. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Phipps, Herb Hanson, Joe Whiteaker, Ted King, Charles Mumby and William Renning. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Hildebrand, Jr., Bill Coffee, Richard DeHaven, Kenneth Hoyt, Alan Holmgren, Norrie Wickersham, Robert Grimm, Roy Christopher. Military rites were performed by an honor guard for V.F.W. Post 7970 composed of A. F. Partridge, Charles Umphenour, Lawrence Lewis, Jim Phipps, Donald Grimm, William Didier, Melvin Thayer, Clarence Schnurr, Harold Wilson, Kenneth Taylor, Stanley Thomas Sr., Alvin Publow, Octave Hanley, Lyle Lewis, Tom Broderick, Buster Wickersham, Russel From and J. B. Robe. Mr. Marsteller was the son of John W. and Helen Marsteller, born November 2, 1930 in Chadron. He was baptized in the Methodist Church at Harrison on April 5, 1931 by the Rev. B. F. Hamilton, pastor. He attended Harrison Grade School until the fifth grade when the family moved to Pueblo, Colo., for two years. The family returned to Harrison and he graduated from Sioux County High School in 1948. He was inducted into the Army June 26, 1951, received basic training at Camp Gordon, Ga., and was shipped to Korea with the 101st Signal Battalion, 9th Corps. He was discharged as a corporal June 9, 1953. Mr. Marsteller was a member of the Harrison V.F.W. Post and Harrison Volunteer Fire Department. He had a great interest in boys and for several years directed Little League baseball. On July 15, 1953, he was married to Florence Hall at the Methodist Church in Harrison. They had four children; John Scott, 12, Robert Lee, 11; and twins, Mark Richard and Michael Richard, 2.
