Barinsky, of Johnson Township Dies at The Advanced Age of Eighty- Five Years— Had Lived in Iowa Over Fifty Years. John Barinsky, one of the aged and pioneer residents of Plymouth county, passed away a t his home in Johnson township on January 28, at the ripe age of eighty- five years. He had been gradually failing in health and strength the past few years owing to the declining powers of old age and for the past few months it was seen that the end was near and he passed away in the fullness of an honored old age and well spent life. John Christian Barinsky was a native of Germany, having been born in a small island of the coast of Germany on April 10, 1825, when about twenty-eight years of age he came to America landing at the port of New Orleans as long ago as 1854. He followed his trade of blacksmith there for some time and continued at it in St. Louis where he went a few years later. He then moved to Cedar county, Iowa, remaining in that vicinity until he came to Plymouth county and engaged in farming in 1885. He was united into marriage at Lowden with Miss Caroline Markham in 1860, who preceded him in death some years ago. To this union eight children were born, six of whom survive to mourn the death of a kind and loving father. They are William Barinsky, of Preston township, Mrs. Elizabeth Laurence, of Peterson, Iowa, Mrs. Lena Wool, of Johnson township, and John H. Barinsky, who lives on the home place. (Omitted from the obituary were Mrs. M. H. Jans, of Akron, and Mrs. Fred Gronemeyer, Preston Township) The funeral was held on Sunday at the Preston township Lutheran church of which he was a consistent member and was largely attended by old friends and neighbors, who held him in high esteem. Rev. Theo. Meyer, the pastor, conducted the services and paid a fitting tribute to the memory of the deceased. Mr. Barinsky had a wide circle of friends and was highly respected in t h e community where he has dwelt for the past quarter of a centurv.
