Rhines, who died March 21, 1890, aged 82 years and 5 months was born in Sharon, New York, October 20, 1807, and was the second of nine children of Wendall and Gratia Rhines, of that place. Rhines, who died March 21, 1890, aged 82 years and 5 months was born in Sharon, New York, October 20, 1807, and was the second of nine children of Wendall and Gratia Rhines, of that place. At the age of 21, Mr. Rhines came to Weymouth and engaged in the lumber work with Porter & Webb, and after a few years entered into partnership in the same business with Captain Joseph Loud and Colonel Ira Curtis, the firm being Loud, Curtis & Rhines. This connection continued almost 7 years, when the firm was dissolved and Mr. Rhines entered into partnership with Mr. Frank E. Loud, this firm continuing for a number of years, when Mr. Rhines withdrew and soon after bought a wharf and commenced business on his own account and about the time of the breaking out of the war, at which stand he was located until 1871, when he retired from business, his two sons John B. and Charles W. Rhines continuing the same. Charles died September 1872 and John still remains in the business. Mr. Rhines was married in 1840 to Miss Eliza Blanchard, daughter of Nathaniel Blanchard of this place, and five children were born, a son and daughter surviving. He was a representative in the Legislature for one term and was a Selectman of Weymouth for two years. He was connected with the Weymouth Union Religious Society from his first coming to Weymouth. The house in which he resided for about 50 years, was built for him at the time of his marriage. Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon last at 3 o'clock at the house, the Rev. Mr. Hackel officiating, and the attendance of relatives and friends in this town and vicinity was very large. The bearers who escorted the remains to the place of interment in the Village Cemetery were Messers. Chapin Thayer, George W. White, John Crane, and Alex Sherman. Mr. Rhines memory will long be cherished in this community as a citizen of spotless character and useful and exemplary life and the departure of one so generally esteemed is a loss for every resident. _________________
