Description	:	John Hantz, 73, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday June 18, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center following an extended illness. John Clayton Hantz was born August 28, 1946, in Deadwood, SD, to Purl L and Lillian (Karinen) Hantz. As a small child he grew up in Black Hills area. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1964. Read More	John Hantz, 73, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday June 18, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center following an extended illness. John Clayton Hantz was born August 28, 1946, in Deadwood, SD, to Purl L and Lillian (Karinen) Hantz. As a small child he grew up in Black Hills area. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1964. Following high school, he attended Black Hill State for a year, in 1965 John enlisted in the US Army and was a member of the Green Beret later he joined SD Army National Guard in US Army Reserve as a Green Beret and retiring as a Captain in the US Army Reserve in 2006. On May 24, 1969, he was united in marriage to Gayle Faini in Denver, Colorado and were blessed with 4 children. In 1978 they moved to Sioux Falls SD to be closer to family. John worked 40 years in sales, he loved his career in sales, especially being on the road for Baber Transportation, Thompson Bros, 0American Rim and Brake & Luverne Truck. John found a new passion for customer service at TCF Bank and Midco Communication. After the encouragement of his family he finally retired in December 2019. John loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, golfing, camping and hiking. John and Gayle loved to travel; some of their fondest memories were to the Faini family reunion to catch up with Aunts, Uncles and cousins as well as exploring the different areas of the country each reunion was held in. They particularly loved their multiple trips to Italy, First with the Christ the King Choir and the others with family members. Those who knew John the best remembers his love for books and movies especially; World War II, Military and Westerns especially anything with John Wayne. His grandchildren will always remember him for making the best homemade milkshakes! Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gayle ; 3 daughters, Tonia Pierce and her husband Jay of Sioux Falls, SD, Tammy Skillman and Geoff Ellerbroek of Sioux Falls, SD, Jessica Anderson and her husband Chad of Sioux Falls, SD and 1 son, David Hantz and fiancé Katie Cacho of Wentworth, SD and 11 grandchildren, Timothy Pierce, Douglas Pierce, Samuel Pierce, Rylee Skillman, Madeline Skillman, Ava Skillman, Parker Anderson, Ethan Anderson, Sophia Anderson, Brody Hantz and Corbin Hantz. He was preceded in death by his Father Purl L Hantz in 1957, Mother Lillian (Karinen) Hantz in 1987 and Father in -law Larry Faini 1995 Funeral Mass for John will begin 10:30 am Friday, June 26, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Christ the King Church, with a Wake Service and Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. - Miller Funeral Home
