His parents had children born in 1819, 1821, 1823, 1826, 1829, Dec 1830 ,1833, 1835, 1837 & 1839. By then, after 10 children, his mother was age 42. His parents had children born in 1819, 1821, 1823, 1826, 1829, Dec 1830 ,1833, 1835, 1837 & 1839. By then, after 10 children, his mother was age 42. John was in the middle of the pack, child #5 of 10. The 1841 UK census showed that John was 12 years old, born in 1829. In 1842, John sailed from Liverpool to New York, then back again to the UK. The immigration record at New York showed “Jno. Clazey”, age 13, which again confirms he was born in 1829. Back in the UK, the 1851 census at Wynfield Farm, near Whitsome, Berwickshire, showed that John lived again with his parents, he was age 22, born in 1829. All the British records all agree: born in 1829. John then migrated to Canada. The 1861 census at Cobourg, Ontario showed “John Clacy”, a servant, age 28, but he was really 32. Later that year John married Martha Smith at Cobourg; the marriage certificate didn’t show his age. The 1871 census at Sidney Township, Ontario, mistakenly called Martha’s husband “James Clazie”, age 38; when he was really John, age 42. John died in 1875 at Saugeen Township, buried at Port Elgin; the grave marker shows he was age 42, but he was really 46.
