Read More	Ellendale, N.D. - John Clifford Gayman, 89, Ellendale, N.D., was born on the family farm on the state line near Ellendale, N.D., to William and Regina (Roggenkamp) Gayman on April 8, 1917. He was the eighth of nine children. John loved hunting and fishing from the time he was a young boy. He often helped feed his family during hard times by hunting when cropland produced little or nothing. John attended Van Meter Township country school through eighth grade, when he quit to work on the family farm. John and Elma Knox were married Oct. 25, 1947, in a small family wedding at the Fred and Lillian Keller farm outside Monango, N.D. John was a member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Ellendale. He was active in the Frederick and Forbes gun clubs and was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He served on the Ellendale School Board as an at-large member and as a board member of his church. He was also a leader for the Prairie Rose 4-H Club. John loved the land. He was a farmer to his core being. He loved to travel and enjoyed talking with people he met during his treks, ranging from Alaska to the Panama Canal, from the nation's capital to northern Canada and the Montana Rocky Mountains, as well as the area cafes and spots where his neighbors gathered for coffee. He had a curiosity about the world around him, which educated him far beyond his formal schooling. He was a first-rate storyteller and took pleasure in a good audience. He was a man of integrity. His word was his bond. John died March 11, 2007, at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center. He is survived by his wife Elma; four children: Coleen (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Cheryl (Martin) Lonski (Minneapolis, Minn.), Sidney (Ellendale), and Linda (Minneapolis); five grandchildren: Darcy (Ellendale), Cassy (Troy) Olson (Guelph, N.D.), Abigail Lonski (Minneapolis), Kurtis (Ellendale), and Rebecca Lonski (Minneapolis); and two great-grandchildren: Courtney and Brooke Olson (Guelph). Also surviving him are one sister, Rosealee Krieg (Minneapolis), nieces and nephews, and extended family in the Davenport, Iowa, area (where his forbearers numbered among the first settlers). He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elsie and twins Fern Anderson and Levern, in addition to brothers Charles, George, Lloyd and an infant brother. Funeral: at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Joseph Manja officiating. Casket Bearers will be: Owen Raugutt, John Merkel, Gary Hokana, David Jenkins, Boyd Sand, Jim Henningsen. Honorary Casket Bearers will be John's Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Darcy J. Gayman, Kurtis J. Gayman, Cassy L. Olson, Rebecca C. Lonski, Abigail L. Lonski, Courtney R. Olson, Brooke E. Olson. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
