Read More	Hinton Daily News and Leader, Hinton, West Virginia Tuesday, January 20, 1914, page 1 John Conner, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at his home near Green Sulphur Springs Sunday morning after an illness of some time and from the infirmities of advanced age. Mr Conner was a former resident of Greenbrier county and lived the most of his life near Alderson. He was twice married and by his first wife leaves three daughters, Mrs Will Boyd, Mrs R P Boyd and Mrs George Lewis, of the vicinity of Alderson. His second wife was Miss Ellen Duncan of Green Sulphur Springs, who survives him. Mr Conner was a highly respected citizen and prominently known in the vicinity of Alderson, where he so long resided. He was 90 years of age. The remains were taken Monday afternoon to Alderson and laid to rest in the Greenbrier Cemetery, there being quite a number from Green Sulphur present at the burial. The Independent-Herald, Hinton, West Virginia Thursday, January 22, 1914, page 4 John Conner, of Green Sulphur, died Sunday, about noon, of dropsy and complications. If he had survived until the 20th of March he would have been 89 years of age. Mr Conner was a native of Greenbrier county, being born and raised in the Muddy Creek vicinity. He is survived by his wife and three children, the latter being: Mrs George Lewis, of Muddy Creek, and Mrs Will and Mrs Porter Boyd, of near Alderson, though residents of Summers. The three daughters were off springs of his first marriage. Mr Conner was a member of the Baptist church at Green Sulphur Springs and a most highly respected citizen, enjoying the fullest esteem of his neighbors and many friends. The Independent-Herald, Hinton, West Virginia Thursday, January 29, 1914, page 7 The many great changes seen by John Conner, who died last Sunday and whose remains were buried here Monday, during the eighty-nine years of his life, is best illustrated when it is borne in mind that when deceased was a small boy his father was killed by Indians in this section of the United States. At the present time the only remnants of the great Indian tribes east of the Mississippi who are leading anything resembling a tribal life are the Seminoles in Florida, and there are no longer any wild savages roaming any portion of the United States. The old log house in which Mr Conner was born at Grassy Meadow is still standing on land owned by Thomas Lewis, but is no longer occupied as a dwelling. - Alderson Advertiser
