Nov 8, 1943 The Harvey County Independent Halstead, Harvey, KS, USA John Dalke Father John Dalke, son of Cornelius and Anna Duerkson Dalke was born in Schardau, South Russia, December 9, 1859. He passed away in the Bethel Hospital on Friday afternoon, November 5, 1943; reaching the age of 83 years, 11 months and 27 days. At the age of 15 years, in the year of 1874, he and his parents came to America and they made their new home in Marion county, near Hillsboro, Kansas. The sixteenth day of September, 1877, he was baptized by Elder Jacob Buller and joined the Alexanderwohl church. On August 18, 1878, he was united in marriage with Mary Penner. To this union were born 12 children, the two oldest passing away in infancy. Another son, Dan, preceded him in death on April 20. 1942. Mother, his faithful wife and companion also preceded him to her reward, passing away on March 31, 1924. Father was again married on September 13, 1925, to Susanna Huck, who was also called away June 12, 1935. He leaves to mourn nine children, Mrs. J. F. Kliever of Enid, Okla., J. P. Dalke and Mrs. F. J. Kliever of New Port, Wash., Mrs. A. J. Brillhart, Hobart, Okla., Henry Dalke and Mrs. S. J. Jantz of Carnegie, Okla., Mrs. A. H. Warkentin, Geary, Okla., Mrs. Helen Regier and E. C. Dalke, both of Burrton, Kansas. Also, two sisters, Mrs. H. D. Penner of Newton, Kansas and Mrs. Lena Balzer Dalles, Oregon. One brother, Frank C. Dalke of Clinton, Okla., 52 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Of Father's immediate family, all the children were able to come to the memorial service with the exception of one son, J. P. Dalke and one daughter, Mrs F. J. Kliever, both of New Port, Washington. Funeral services were held in the Mennonite church at Burrton, Kansas on Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 1943 at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. David C. Wedel of the Mennonite church of Halstead and Rev. Arnold A. Epp , pastor of the Burrton church officiating. A trio , Miss Selma Flickinger, Mrs. John Goering and Mrs. Arnold Epp sang "Beautiful Heaven," and "In the Land Where We Never Grow Old." Mrs. Joe Schrag accompanied them at the piano. They also sang "Shall We Meet at the River" at the graveside. Pallbearers were Dan Penner, Marcus Penner, Albert Regier, Otto Regier, Phil Schrag and Henry Boese. Burial was in the Burrton cemetery. McCarthy and Dreese Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
