April 4.—The sad news reached here Monday that John Culver formerly of this vicinity and one of our oldest settlers had died suddenly in Denver as he was enroute home from Long Beach, Calif, with his wife and daughter-in-law, Mrs. E. L. Culver. It seems from reports that he had just stepped from the train in Denver when he pitched forward and as he fell struck his head upon the heavy steel rail. April 4.—The sad news reached here Monday that John Culver formerly of this vicinity and one of our oldest settlers had died suddenly in Denver as he was enroute home from Long Beach, Calif, with his wife and daughter-in-law, Mrs. E. L. Culver. It seems from reports that he had just stepped from the train in Denver when he pitched forward and as he fell struck his head upon the heavy steel rail. It was evidently the result of appoplexy and death came almost instantly. The remains were brought to McPherson Tuesday morning and the funeral occurred yesterday at Hawthorne at one o'clock and the remains brought to Emerson for interment. Deceased was seventy five years of age and had resided in this vicinity for a good many years. Three sons survive him, Frank of Red Oak, C. P. of Macedonia and E. E. formerly of Emerson but now in California. He was one of our early pioneers and well known and respected bv all the older settlers.
