Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa. Jack was born on Nov. 5, 1942, in La Porte City, Iowa, son of Henry and Mary Smith Klein. He grew up in Independence, Iowa, and is a 1960 graduate of St. John's High School. He is also a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, where he received his BS degree, and from St. Mary's College in Winona, where he received his MS degree. In June 1969 he was united in marriage to Barbara Niederriter in Erie, Pa. Jack moved to the community of Dyersville in 1965. He began teaching at Xavier High School in 1965 and then taught at Beckman High School for many years, before assuming the post of principal. Upon leaving Beckman, Jack once again took up the job he did so well...teaching, this time at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta. Teaching was the love of his life. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Klein of Dyersville, Iowa; one son, Dennis (Lisa) Klein of Chesapeake, Va.; one daughter, Debra (Paul) McGee of Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Donald Klein and Alan H. (Wanda) Klein, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three sisters, Joan (John) Cassens of Schleswig, Iowa, Beth (Howard) Rupp of Cleghorn, Iowa, and Sister Patrice Klein of Hospers, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Cindy Klein of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Klein. The family request no flowers be given. Memorials may be given to Beckman High School in Dyersville, Iowa, or to the Northeast Iowa Community College Scholarship fund in Peosta, Iowa. Jack leaves a host of cherished friends, who shared in so much of his life. They also are family.
