Dan's death was the result of an unexpected complication due to a non-COVID-related illness. Dan was born on September 22, 1966 and grew up in Boydton, Va. He graduated from Bluestone High School in Skipwith, Va., and studied at Vance Granville Community College, graduating in the class of 1988. Dan started his career in radiology at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va. He furthered his career when he moved to the University of Virginia Medical Center (UVA) in Charlottesville, Va. For more than 25 years, Dan served as a CT and MRI technician in the radiology MRI department at UVA. Dan's personality revealed his loving heart. Everywhere he went, Dan was well-loved as "X-Ray Dan," "MRI Dan," "Danno" and "Dan the Man!" Dan thoroughly enjoyed his life, work and retirement (2017), helping people - whether family, patients, co-workers, friends - anyone God put in his path. He never met a stranger, never said a cross word and championed the successes of others. Dan is survived by his loving companion and fiancee', Carolyn Powell Godfrey; brothers, Michael Adam Sneed (Mary) of Skipwith, Va., Rob Tracy Carlton (Shelley) of Buffalo Junction, Va.; nephews, Michael Adam Sneed Jr., Zachary Wilson Sneed, Jacob Wayne Carlton, Andrew Edward Carlton, Mason Trey Carlton; nieces, Hailey Anne Carlton, Adelle Bayne; a great-niece, a great-nephew, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Marshall Sneed; mother, Beatrice Bailes Carlton; brother, Hogan Marshall Sneed; and stepfather, Robert Edward Carlton. There will be two Celebration of Life services; please join us. We will begin on Saturday, August 14 at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg, Va. The viewing will start at 1 p.m. and the funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend. We will continue Sunday, August 15 at Liberty Baptist Church, Skipwith, Va.; the viewing begins at 1 p.m. with the funeral service to follow. The graveside service will commence at Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery. To celebrate one of Dan's passions, please feel free to come dressed in your favorite T-shirt from DC Comics, MARVEL Comics, or The Mandalorian. Due to medical conditions, masks must be worn inside at all times. We are also asking for a fragrance-free environment. Please don't wear perfume, cologne, scented lotion, etc., so that we can avoid possible severe allergic reactions.
