Hollingsworth, State Secretary of the Nebraska Christian Missionary Society, former pastor and long time friend of the family, conducted the services. The interment was in the Ulysses cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Diers, accompanied by their daughter Catherine, sang two hymns. Rev. Hollingsworth read the following obituary prepared by Mrs. Edna Stone. John D. Lemmon was born at Adrian, Pennsylvania, June 10, 1860. He passed away at the home of his daughter Charlotte, Berwyn, Nebr., August 11, 1946 at the age of 86 years. In 1884 Mr. Lemmon moved from Pennsylvania to Nebraska. While living at Ulysses he met and married Mary Ellen Cameron. To this happy union were born six children: Jamie and Walter who died in infancy, Robert Bruce, a missionary in Asuncion, Paraguay, Charlotte Francis, a teacher in Berwyn, Nebraska; Russell Cameron, a banker in Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Marthena Whitcomb of Welch, Oklahoma. Also surviving him is a sister, Mrs. Mary Lasher of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. For 21 years Mr. Lemmon was a resident of Ulysses, Nebraska, where he was engaged in the elevator business. He was a loyal member of the Christian church, serving as deacon for many years. He was also active in the affairs of the town, was a member of the town board and also of the school board. In 1912 Mr. Lemmon moved his family to Lincoln, Nebr., that the children might have the educational advantages of Cotner Collage. There, as at Ulysses, he was an ardent worker in the church and took an interest in all civic improvements. About three years after Mrs. Lemmon's death in 1927, Mr. Lemmon moved with his daughter, Charlotte, to a farm near Broken Bow, Nebraska. There he lived until his health began to fail. The last few years he has lived with his daughters, Mrs. Harry Whitcomb, Welch, Oklahoma and Miss Charlotte Lemmon, Berwyn, Nebraska. He was a faithful and considerate husband, a kind and generous father; always eager to give his children the best advantages and ready to encourage them in all worthwhile ambitions, We remember him for his sense of humor, and his fine Christian character.
