Bradford passed away at 10:15 p.m., Feb 12th, at this lately purchased home on State street, city. Many relatives and friends were called upon to bow the head of sorrow and pay a farewell tribute to a respected man. He was born October 20, 1832, at Plymouth, Michigan. When twelve years of age he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Bradford, to the old farm home northwest of city in Easton. There are but few in the county today who saw the road as it was then – a crooked Indian trail. He cleared the farm where he lived the greater part of his life, and it was there he was married to Sarah Wilbur in 1860. To them were born three boys: Edwin, Fred and Frank. He lived there until December 8, 1910, where he moved to his residence on State street. On December 17, while coming down the icy sidewalk, he fell and broke his left arm. He was a faithful husband, a good neighbor; a kind father, and the neighborhood feels in part the loss with the bereaved relatives have to bear, and they have the sympathy of all in the hour of sorrow. Mr. Bradford's firm hold on Christian faith was expressed by him to the end. He was an old soldier, a member of the Free Methodist church for thirty year; also a member of the Methodist church for a long. Time. He was in the service of the Lord for over sixty years, and for thirty years a class leader in the churches and always faithful to his Creator. "Life's race well run. Life's work well done Life's crown well won Now comes Rest." The funeral service was held at Easton church, 15 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. C. Ostroth, who left us some very consoling thoughts; and the choir sang the songs with were Mr. Bradford's favorites; "Nearer My God to Thee," Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "Asleep in Jesus". The pall bearers were the nephews; Charles Bradford of Saginaw, Paul Bradford of Pontiac, Howard Bradford of Ronald and Arthur Bradford of Easton. -- Card of Thanks We wish to thank the neighbors and friends for kindnesses and sympathy shown us during the sickness and at time of death of our dear father; also for the beautiful flowers sent by friends and societies. Bradford Dead. John D. Bradford, one of the country pioneers, died last night at 10:15 at his residence, 365 State street after an illness of a week. Mr. Bradford was taken ill a week ago with an attack of the grip and this resulted in his death. He has been a resident of Ionia but about two months, having moved from the farm in Easton, west of Dildine, early in December. A son, Fred of Alma arrived at noon today and pending his arrival the funeral arrangements were not announced. Mr. Bradford came to Ionia county in 1854 and settled on the farm in Easton where he lived until recently, when he moved into the city. He cleared the land himself and build a log house where before large maple trees, three feet through had stood, and which he cut down. In 1860, he married Miss Sarah Wilbur, also a resident of Ionia county. The wedding ceremony of these pioneers was celebrated by Luman Colton and the night ride through the woods formed an interesting anecdote of the early life with was related by Mr. Colton at the golden wedding anniversary celebrated on November 12, last year. Mr. Bradford was 76 years of age and his wife and three sons survive. The sons are Ed, living on the farm, Fred, of Alma, and Frank, of Ionia.
