Description	:	John de Veer was born in Blumenort (near Steinbach) on October 27, 1884. At about 10 years of age he with his parents moved to Greenland, where he finished his schooling and grew to manhood. In the fall of 1906 he received forgiveness of sins and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on October 27, remaining faithful to his vows to the end. Read More	John de Veer was born in Blumenort (near Steinbach) on October 27, 1884. At about 10 years of age he with his parents moved to Greenland, where he finished his schooling and grew to manhood. In the fall of 1906 he received forgiveness of sins and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on October 27, remaining faithful to his vows to the end. On March 24, 1907 he was joined in marriage to Elizabeth Wiebe. In the fall of 1911, they with their parents moved to Needles, B. C., where they went through the pioneering part of the Watchan Valley settlement. In Aug. 1917 when that community broke up they went to Swalwell, Alberta, later establishing a home at Acme. Here father was a farmer. He also had a blacksmith shop for 25 years. On April 16, 1926 the home was saddened by the the death of his beloved companion and mother of the children. After retiring from his farm in 1953 he moved to his children in Manitoba. On January 27, 1957 he was married to me, Anna, widow of the late Peter A. Penner. We lived happily in our home on Levi Reimer's yard till death parted us. Father was in good health till last spring. His health continued fair till late autumn when his illness was diagnosed as cancer. The last week father was in his home being taken care of by the family till he passed away 6 p. m. January 24, 1960. He leaves to mourn his departure, me his loving companion, six daughters: Agnes (Mrs. Levi Reimer) Ste. Anne, Man.; Martha (Mrs. Aaron Toews) McTavish, Man.; Lena of Linden, Alberta; Eva (Mrs. Jac. Regehr) Drumheller, Alberta; Dora, (Mrs. Ted Wiebe) Ste. Anne, Man.; two sons, Dan of Crooked Creek, Alberta, Ted of Abbotsford, B. C.; five sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob T. Wiebe and Gerhard de Veer; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Friesen, Mrs. Maria Dierker and Mrs. Margaret Esau. Also the P. A. Penner family became his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by his second marriage who accepted him as their father.
